Lester North knows better than to ask questions about the family business. Not that it would do him any good, the criminal world of his father is off-limits to anyone under thirteen. But when he accidentally witnesses his brother’s haunting initiation ceremony, Lester is plunged into a mystery involving secret societies, supernatural powers, and a war between good and evil, in which his parents are fighting on the wrong side.
With help from his friends Amanda and Mae, Lester must race to uncover the truth about his hometown and a dark history no one taught him in school before he is forced to take his place at his father’s side. If he fails, it won’t just be his parents he has to worry about but also an old enemy from their past who has his own plans for Lester.

But he just stares silently at them with his piercing blue eyes. ƒæÇ The sheriff is a rotund man who looks like a Thanksgiving turkey, but he's not as nice as he seems. ƒÿÆ He arrested Mr. Corey, the man in the hole, for a crime he may or may not have committed. The sheriff is trying to get Mr. Corey to enter a plea, but he's not talking. ƒÆ¼ I'M ON THE EDFE OG MY SEAT, HUGH ƒ¬æ What is Mr. Corey's crime? Why won't he talk?
