Chapter 18 - The Star That Refused to Shine

Step out onto the field, Hope," Aditya’s voice echoed across the massive Main Fighting Hall. "Initiate your combat gear."

Hope closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Channeling his inner energy, his armor began to materialize. But as the light faded, the entire stadium went dead silent. Unlike the standard four basic vanguard suits worn by the others, Hope’s gear shifted into his unique, highly specialized

Organ Suit

. Its biological pathways hummed with a strange, intricate pattern of colors that no one had ever seen before.

Up in the galleries, the younger military officers began to murmur.

"What kind of suit layout is that?" one whispered. "It looks completely different from the academy standards. Is it an anom"aly or just a malfunction?"

Before the crowd could analyze it further, the titanic containment gates groaned open. Emerging from the shadows was a colossal beast—a

B-tier Vector

standing an intimidating twenty feet tall. Its jagged, shadowy hide pulsed with malevolent energy, and its eyes locked onto the small twelve-year-old boy standing across the arena. Hope’s breath hitched. He had fought monsters before, but he had never faced a biological threat of this terrifying scale.

"This is a specialized B-tier specimen caught specifically for your verification test," Aditya announced over the intercom, his voice serious. "The match begins now. Fight!"

The Vector didn't waste a single millisecond. It opened its massive maw, instantly condensing a titanic sphere of raw, chaotic energy. With a deafening roar, it launched the massive energy ball straight at Hope.

Paralyzed by a sudden wave of nervousness under the gaze of fifty high-level officials, Hope didn't dodge. Instead, he instinctively raised his sword to block. The impact was cataclysmic. The heavy concentration of flux energy within the ball smashed through his guard, sending him skidding backward across the dirt as micro-fractures rippled through his armor. He took direct damage on opening impact.

Up in the control booth, Aditya’s brow furrowed. He slammed his fist onto the console. "What kind of amateur opening move was that?!"

The Vector didn't give Hope time to recover. It suddenly sank directly into the solid ground, disappearing entirely. Hope scrambled to his feet, spinning around blindly. He didn't know how to track an underground target. Panicking, he used his raw strength to jump incredibly high into the air.

Down in the dirt below, the Vector erupted from the earth right where Hope had been standing a second prior. The massive jaws snapped shut on empty air. Hope had technically avoided the damage, but his movement was messy, uncoordinated, and desperate.

Watching from the sidelines, Leo put his hands on his head in sheer frustration. "Is he stupid?! Why is he performing like a total amateur out there? This is embarrassing!"

Aditya’s hands tensed over the controls. He was getting deeply nervous. This was a standard B-tier Vector, but its raw physical output was devastating.

'Come on, Hope,'

Aditya thought bitterly.

'The only way you survive this is if your Vector Flux is perfectly executed. Use your brain!'

The Vector realized its prey was airborne. Sinking back into the ground, it pulled a brutal tactical trick. It didn't emerge beneath Hope this time. Instead, as Hope landed heavily back on the floor, the monster erupted silently right behind his blind spot.

Before Hope could turn, the Vector unleashed a point-blank, high-density flux ball directly into his back.

BOOM!

A catastrophic explosion tore through the center of the stadium. Thick, black smoke heavily blanketed the entire arena floor, obscuring the scanners. When the dust finally began to settle, a collective gasp echoed from the galleries.

Hope was down on the metallic earth, his unique suit flickering weakly, completely unresponsive.

The match umpire stepped onto the boundary line, raising a hand to officially call the match. "The combatant is unable to respond. Preparing to declare a knockout—"

Up in the VIP boxes, a high-level global officer let out a mocking laugh, shaking his head. "And that's the prodigy we came to see? They called him a star. Looks like a star that doesn't shine."

Deep within the dark, fading consciousness of Hope’s mind, the mocking laughter faded away into a heavy, suffocating silence. He questioned himself in the dark.

'Why am I doing this? What am I even trying to get from this fight?'

But then, out of the deep subconscious darkness, a calm, resonant voice echoed. It was a voice from a memory he had long forgotten.

👤

"I gave you the name Hope because your life's ultimate target is to bring hope to all of them."

Through the mental fog, a mysterious man stepped out from the shadows into a brilliant, blinding light. The memory snapped Hope's eyes wide open.

Just as the umpire was about to slash his hand down to officially declare Hope’s defeat, Hope’s hand slowly twitched. He raised his arm, his fingers tightening into a fist against the dirt. With agonizing slowness, he forced his battered body back up, aligning his feet into a flawless, rock-solid fighting stance.

He wiped a smear of blood from his jaw, looking up at the VIP boxes with eyes that burned like dying stars.

"You think I lost?" Hope’s voice was quiet, but it carried an absolute, spine-chilling weight through the arena microphone. "My body might be damaged... but my soul says I fight."

The umpire froze, then quickly gestured to the arena gates. "The combatant stands! Resume the match! Release the parameters!"

The Vector roared, infuriated that the tiny human was still breathing. It sprinted forward, its claws ready to tear him apart. Hope didn't back down. He leaped into the air once again, but this time, there was no panic.

"Not every jump leads to damage," Hope whispered.

He unleashed his hidden reserves. He activated

Vector Flux

, but something fundamental within his energy core completely broke its shackles. The ambient energy of the entire stadium began to violently warp. The standard colored aura of his unique Organ Suit suddenly shattered, transforming into a brilliant, blinding,

pure white

light.

Up in the control booth, Jeena and Aditya instantly stood up, their jaws dropping in utter confusion.

"White?!" Jeena gasped, her eyes scanning the fluctuating energy readouts. "That's not a standard flux color pathway! What did he just unlock?!"

The Vector hurled another massive flux ball at him, but Hope didn't even flinch. Moving with terrifying, effortless speed, he swung his sword in a clean arc. The pure white energy coating his blade cleanly sliced the massive B-tier energy ball completely in half, sending the residual sparks dissipating safely into the air.

Realizing its long-range attacks were useless, the Vector frantically dived back underground to hide.

Hope looked down at the fractured arena floor, a cold, confident smile breaking across his face. "You really think you can defeat me by hiding in the dark?"

Hovering high in the air, Hope extended both palms downward. He tapped into the absolute maximum threshold of his high-release technique. The pure white light exploded outward, rapidly condensing into a titanic, apocalyptic sphere of compressed energy. It grew larger and larger, expanding until its diameter was literally the size of a massive house.

The raw, destructive pressure of the

Vector Splash

caused the stadium's automated magnetic safety shields to violently slam shut, sealing the arena in a vacuum to prevent the entire facility from collapsing.

"

Vector... SPLASH!

" Hope roared.

He hurled the house-sized white sun directly into the ground.

The impact was absolute. The reinforced titanium floor of the Main Fighting Hall instantly shattered into millions of pieces. The blinding white blast completely enveloped the entire arena, entirely vaporizing the twenty-foot B-tier Vector down to its very last cell.

As the catastrophic white light slowly faded, the magnetic shields automatically slid open, releasing a massive gust of wind. Hope landed softly amidst the smoking ruins of the destroyed battlefield, his chest heaving as his white aura slowly receded.

But as the absolute silence of the stunned boardroom hung over the stadium, a faint, disembodied voice suddenly whispered directly into Hope's mind through the residual pathways of his Vector Flux.

🌌

"Thank you... thank you for releasing me from the earth..."

Hope’s eyes widened. He spun around, trying to track the signal, but his scanners and Vector Flux couldn't find a single trace of where the voice had come from. Who was it? What had he just awakened beneath the arena?

Before he could process the mystery, his vision blurred from pure exhaustion. Jeena leaped down from the observation deck, catching his slumping shoulders before he hit the ground.

"I've got you, kid," Jeena said softly, slinging his arm over her shoulder as medical drones rushed onto the field. "Let's get you to the wing and patch you up. You just turned the entire global board upside down."
