"Flawless execution, Perry!" Aditya’s voice boomed over the training room speakers as the third D-rank Vector dissolved into ash. "Your Vector Flux is perfectly regulated. You released the exact right amount of continuous flux energy without wasting a single drop. You pass the test with flying colors. You're officially cleared for the mission."
Perry bowed slightly, a wave of relief washing over his face as he stepped back onto the observation platform.
Aditya turned around, a sharp, challenging grin spreading across his face. He looked directly at the youngest member of the squad. "Alright, kids. It is officially time for our resident celebrity to step up to the plate. Hope, you're up."
Hope offered a small, quiet smile, adjusting the silver badge on his chest. "Fine by me. Where am I taking this test?"
"We're heading out of the backup cells," Aditya replied, gesturing toward the heavy automated security doors. "Your test takes place in the Main Fighting Hall. Let's move."
Jeena, Aditya, and the four vanguard teenagers walked down the reinforced glass corridors, eventually entering the coliseum-sized arena known as the Main Fighting Hall. The scale of the room was immense, flanked by high-tech scanning barriers and reinforced titanium walls designed to contain B-tier catastrophic impacts.
Hope stopped in his tracks, looking out at the center of the battlefield. "This is where I fight?"
"Yes," Aditya said, checking his digital tablet. "Any problems with the layout?"
Hope didn't answer immediately. His hands tightened into small fists at his sides. For the first time since joining the squad, a cold wave of genuine nervousness washed over him. Up in the tiered VIP galleries and flickering across giant holographic displays surrounding the stadium, about fifty high-level global military officers were staring down at the field. Fifty pairs of critical, judgmental eyes, waiting to see if a twelve-year-old kid was a fraud or a weapon.
"Alright, I need to go handle the match parameters and authorize the Vector release from the master control console," Aditya announced, completely missing Hope's sudden silence. "Don't mess up."
As Aditya walked away toward the control tower, Hope remained frozen near the arena entrance. His breathing turned slightly shallow.
Jeena stopped beside him, her sharp eyes instantly picking up on the kid's rigid posture. She knelt down slightly to match his eye level, her tone softening completely. "Hey. Why do you look so nervous all of a sudden? Is everything okay, Hope?"
Hope looked down at his boots, the weight of the entire world pressing down on his small shoulders. "What if I perform poorly in this match? What if I lose? Aditya sir... he has such high confidence in me. He fought the entire boardroom for me. If I fail here in front of everyone, I ruin everything."
Jeena looked at him for a quiet moment, a gentle, understanding smile gracing her lips.
🌊 "Hope, listen to me closely. Do you think that if you don't perform perfectly today, your life is suddenly over? Life is a complex, beautiful puzzle. It isn't just about a straight line of victories. It’s meant to be lived, to be enjoyed, to be fought for. You use everything you know to build a better life for yourself, day by day."
"I don't know..." Hope muttered, his voice trailing off as he looked toward the cold, waiting battlefield. "I have no idea what I'm supposed to do if I fail. I like having power. I want to prove I'm strong."
"There is nothing wrong with wanting to be strong," Jeena replied gently. "But you are looking at failure completely backwards. By losing, you don't lose your worth. Losing is simply the universe showing you your current weaknesses, your hidden disadvantages, and the gaps in your armor. Remember this line for the rest of your future, Hope:
If you never fall out, you will never truly understand the taste of success.
"
Hope remained silent, digesting her words as the ambient hum of the stadium generators filled the air. After a long pause, he looked back up at her. "But... what about Aditya sir's confidence in me? He believes in me so much."
"That is the best question you could ask for your future," Jeena said, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "When a person like Aditya believes in you—when someone truly has confidence in your potential and genuinely cares about you—it does
not
mean they expect you to win every single battle without ever making a mistake."
Jeena’s eyes shone with absolute conviction.
🛡️ "It means they see the great person you are destined to become in the future. It means they know that whenever you need help, you will find it. And it means that no matter what tragic thing happens in your life, no matter how hard you get knocked down, you will always have the strength to make a spectacular comeback. They care about you because they know what you are truly capable of when you rise back up."
Jeena stood up, pointing toward the open arena floor where the warning lights were beginning to flash red.
"Now go out there. Don't fight to please the fifty politicians sitting in the boxes. Go out there and give one hundred percent of your heart—for yourself, and for the people who truly care about you."
Up in the control booth, Aditya slammed his hand onto the broadcast button, his voice echoing across the entire coliseum.
"Match parameters locked! High-tier containment active! Hope, get out onto the field! All the best, kid!"
Hope took a deep, steadying breath. The nervousness in his chest didn't vanish completely, but it transformed into a focused, vibrating surge of raw energy. He adjusted his silver badge one last time, cracked his knuckles, and marched firmly out into the blinding lights of the main hall.
The heavy iron gates on the opposite side of the stadium began to scream as they tore open.
