Downstairs from the gym, Yang Bin and his crew each shouldered a barbell rod as they strolled away.
Inside the gym, over thirty muscular men lay on the ground, rolling and groaning, unable to get up.
Sure, they were all jacked. Unfortunately, they'd run into a group of freaks. A few swings of those bars and every last one of them was floored.
And that was with Yang Bin's team holding back. Otherwise, they wouldn't have just been lying on the ground.
After all, they'd already stolen the guys' stuff. Yang Bin figured killing them on top of that would be a bit much.
Afterward, Yang Bin led the group out of the residential district, heading somewhere with fewer zombies to farm.
Fewer zombies meant fewer high-order ones too, but not wasting hours grinding through low-order trash meant more time hunting Tier-4 Zombies.
Relying on his True Vision Eye, Yang Bin guided them through several streets until they reached a commercial district.
Since the apocalypse had broken out at night, the commercial district had far fewer zombies than the residential areas.
Still, zombies wandered everywhere, so there were some here too.
They found the tallest building in the area and climbed to the top, using the elevated vantage point to scan for Tier-4 Zombies.
With the True Vision Eye, finding them was never the problem.
Before long, Yang Bin spotted three Tier-4 Zombies in the area.
Better yet, since zombies were sparse here, each of the three only had a handful of followers trailing behind them.
"See? This method works," Yang Bin said with a grin.
They headed back down. Under Yang Bin's lead, all three Tier-4 Zombies were killed.
Two crystals went to Old Hei and Skinny Monkey. Yang Bin ate the last one himself.
It had been a while since he'd consumed a crystal. Now that the whole team was Tier 4, the crystals going forward would be prioritized for him.
Once they'd cleared this area, they moved on to the next, repeating the process-find the tallest building, climb up, locate Tier-4 Zombies, go down and kill them.
Sometimes they'd spend ages scanning from the rooftop without spotting a single Tier-4 target. But even so, this method was leagues more efficient than their old approach of camping staircases and grinding through hordes.
Walmart Supermarket...
Seven or eight cargo trucks, escorted by three Troop Transport Vehicles, barreled straight up to the Walmart Supermarket entrance. Squads of soldiers poured out of the transports, forced open the supermarket doors, and rushed inside to load supplies.
Inside, over a dozen women who'd been eating stared blankly at the scene unfolding before them.
A young man in camouflage and a woman in a police uniform stepped out of a vehicle and entered the supermarket.
Both frowned at the dozens of corpses scattered across the floor. These people clearly hadn't been killed by zombies.
The policewoman approached the group of women and asked softly, "Are you all okay?"
The women glanced at her, then at the soldiers, and gave wooden nods.
"Good. You're survivors here, right? Do you know how these people died?" She gestured toward the bodies on the ground.
Disgust flickered across the women's faces, but they all shook their heads.
The policewoman studied their expressions, frowned, and didn't push further. "Get in the vehicles for now. You'll come back to base with us."
At the word "base," something like hope finally surfaced in the women's eyes. They nodded quickly.
They'd tried going out to kill zombies before. But the zombies outside were too strong. After losing two of their own, they hadn't dared venture out again, hiding in the supermarket instead. Food and water were plentiful enough-they wouldn't starve.
Clearly, everything Yang Bin had told them had gone to waste.
What a shame. The one time Crazy Yang bothered being kind. Some people's fates aren't a matter of chance.
The soldiers worked fast. Before long, they'd stripped the Walmart nearly bare of usable supplies, filling the trucks almost to capacity.
The convoy started its return trip.
But as they passed through a residential area, a mob of people suddenly burst out from between the buildings, sprinting frantically toward the vehicles.
They must have seen the convoy pass through earlier.
The problem was the massive swarm of zombies chasing right behind them.
Battalion Commander Song's brow furrowed.
Logic said to keep driving. Don't stop. Leave now.
But the soldier in him couldn't watch people die.
"Battalion Commander Song, what are you waiting for? Stop and save them!" the policewoman urged.
Song gritted his teeth and gave the order to halt.
Soldiers leapt from the Troop Transport Vehicles and moved to intercept the fleeing civilians.
But this had been a supply run, not a combat mission. They didn't have many troops. Facing the tide of zombies surging toward them, the soldiers could only open fire, laying down covering shots as the civilians scrambled closer.
The moment gunfire erupted, the residential district went to hell.
This area was already crawling with zombies. The sound of gunshots drew even more of them flooding in from every direction.
And the most infuriating part-half the civilians running toward them heard the shots and dropped flat to the ground, shaking like leaves.
Battalion Commander Song's face went black.
"If you don't want to die, move your asses! Anyone who stays on the ground, I'll put a bullet in them myself!"
His roar scared them back to their feet.
After an agonizing stretch, the civilians finally reached the convoy and scrambled into the Troop Transport Vehicles.
"Move! Now!"
Song roared.
But the road ahead was already packed with zombies.
The soldiers fired frantically, but for every zombie that dropped, two more appeared.
"Forget the main road! Detour through the commercial district!" Song shouted.
The vehicles swung around, heading toward the commercial district.
But turning seven or eight fully loaded cargo trucks wasn't simple. The zombies caught up almost instantly, swarming over the vehicles and burying them under writhing bodies.
Song's expression turned to iron. He had no choice but to abandon the supply trucks and flee in the Troop Transport Vehicles.
But this road hadn't been cleared. Wrecked cars choked the street, and the lead transport could only ram its way through.
The transports were built tough, but the constant impacts slowed them to a crawl.
Soldiers in the rear vehicles sprayed continuous fire at the pursuing horde, keeping the zombies from climbing aboard.
At this rate, their ammo wouldn't last.
After pushing forward for a stretch, a massive pile of zombie corpses appeared across the road ahead.
Song wanted to scream.
"Fuck! Who the hell was killing zombies here?!"
"Everyone out! On foot! Target-that building ahead!"
With that wall of corpses blocking the road, the vehicles were done. Clearing a path would take time they didn't have. The building was their only option.
Everyone piled out and sprinted toward the nearby high-rise under covering fire from the soldiers.
Meanwhile...
Yang Bin and his crew were standing on the rooftop of that very building, scanning for Tier-4 Zombies, when gunfire reached their ears. Three Troop Transport Vehicles came barreling toward them.
"The hell is wrong with these military guys, driving all the way out here?" Yang Bin muttered.
Then he saw the ocean of zombies surging behind the vehicles, and his expression shifted.
"Are you shitting me? I just wanted to farm some kills. Who the hell did I piss off?!"
