Chapter 3 - Boar Piglet Ribs!

A gentle breeze blew, tickling the nape of my neck and the old man turned his head towards me. He either, heard my footsteps or moved his face to meet the gentle caress of the wind. Our eyes met and he frowned, making more wrinkles appear on his already old and wrinkly face.

What is he frowning about?...

I thought, but a short moment later, I understood why he reacted in such a way and I thought,

I completely forgot… In RE: EFO, Warlocks are one of the classes that are of the evil alignment and only NPCs of evil and neutral alignments or factions would give quests, sell items or interact with them. In the game, NPCs of a good alignment or a faction would ignore those of the evil alignment completely, or say, ‘I don’t deal with your kind, evil scum,’…

I furrowed my eyebrows,

but this isn’t the game anymore, this is reality and since this is reality, they could do much worse. I would just have to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. After all, I was sent to prison for 10 years, for a crime, I did not commit. Just remembering it makes me so pissed off!...

My eyebrows furrowed deeper,

but how could the old man even tell that I am a warlock? Was he watching me fight and saw me using <Shadow Bolt>? Or did he just know, just like the NPCs in the game knew? If it’s the former then It’s fine, but if it’s the latter then I will have to be careful of what I say, what I do and where I go.

Stopping in front of the frowning old man, I unfurrowed my eyebrows and raised the corners of my lips, forming a faint smile, “Hello, do you need any help?” I asked.

The frowning old man looked into my eyes; then a few seconds later, he lowered his head and sighed heavily, “Beggars can’t be choosers…,” he mumbled under his breath. Each one of his words was quieter than the last and I couldn’t hear what he said after the word ‘chooser’s’. He raised his head; the frown that was on his face had disappeared and our eyes met.

“I do need help, collect 11 boar piglet ribs for me and you will be rewarded with 5 copper coin. Will you do it?” The old man said with a serious expression on his face. A few notification messages flashed before my eyes.

<Quest Received>

<Quest name: Collecting boar piglet ribs>

<Quest Description: Collect 11 boar piglet ribs>

<Quest Reward 1: 100 XP>

<Quest Reward 2: 5 Copper coins>

“Alright,” I said and a notification message flashed before my eyes.

<Quest Accepted>

The old man nodded his head and closed his eyes.

I will ask him how he knew I was a warlock after I complete this quest.

I turned away from the old man and immediately saw the monster I needed to kill and collect its rib – the boar piglet. It was standing 13-yards away from me. The same distance the last boar piglet stood away from me.

<Boar Piglet, Level 1>

<HP: 50/50>

I glanced at the old man,

I should move away from him first.

 I took two steps to the right, extended my right arm towards the boar piglet,

Shadow Bolt!

I spoke in my head;

my hand got enveloped in a black light and words I had to say appeared in my head, “

L'togael bolt!

” A black bolt flew out of my palm.

Swoosh!

The black projectile flew through the air and hit the boar piglet at which I aimed at. Damage floated up above its head, <-14>. It was reduced to 36 health. It squealed in pain, locked its gaze on me and charged.

Shadow Bolt!

My right hand got enveloped in a black glow,

L'togael bolt!

” A black bolt flew out of my palm.

Swoosh!

The black projectile flew through the air and hit the boar piglet. Damage floated up above its head as it squealed in pain, <-13>. It was reduced to 23 health. The distance between us decreased to 6-yards.

Shadow Bolt!

My right hand got enveloped in a black glow,

L'togael bolt!

” A black bolt flew out of my palm.

Swoosh!

The black projectile flew through the air and hit the boar piglet. Damage floated up above its head as it squealed in pain, <-15>. It was reduced to 8 health.

The boar piglet reached me, and like the last time it seemed like it wanted to headbutt me. I sidestepped to the right again and dodged the headbutt; then extended my hand,

Shadow Bolt!

My right hand got enveloped in a black light, “L'togael bolt!” A black projectile flew out of my palm.

The black projectile hit the boar piglet that was in a punching distance of me. Damage floated up above its head, <-12>. It squealed louder than ever before and fell down on its right side, dead; a few notifications flashed before my eyes.

<Boar Piglet, Slain>

<+10 XP>

The boar piglet’s collapsed body got enveloped in a golden glow.

I touched its body with my right hand; a loot window appeared.

<1 Copper>

<Boar Piglet Rib>

I tapped on both items, looted them and backed away.

I need 10 more. Since this is the beginner zone, the drop rate of quest items is 100%. I need to kill 10 more of these piglets.

 I looked around and set my sights on the first boar piglet my eyes landed on.

After killing 6 more boar piglets, I now had 7 boar piglet ribs, 8 copper coins and I levelled up from <Level 0> to <Level 1> and I thought,

I will allocate my points after, I complete the quest.

I looked around and set my sights on the first boar piglet I saw.

After killing 4 more boar piglets and getting their ribs, I walked back to the old man. He opened his eyes, “Why have you come back so fast? It has only been ten minutes.”

“I have the boar piglet ribs,” I furrowed my eyebrows,

Huh? Where is the turn in window?... It seems I have to pull them out of my inventory and hand them to him physically.

The old man furrowed his eyebrows, “Where are they, then?”

“A moment,” I said as I took a few steps back. I extended my hand towards the <Inventory> option on the lower right corner, but my finger went right through it. I furrowed my eyebrows,

How do I open the inventory? Maybe it’s the same as using the skills? Inventory.

A window opened in front of me and I saw both the boar piglet ribs and my collected copper coins.

<11 Boar piglet ribs>

<12 Copper coins>

Do I pull them out with my thoughts as well? Boar piglet ribs.

The inventory window changed to a new window with only a single sentence in it.

<How many do you want to extract?>

11

I thought; the new window closed, the inventory didn’t re-open and a notification flashed.

<11 Boar piglet ribs extracted>
