Chapter 27 - Chapter 26: Escape

-"Trouble? What kind of trouble, big brother? Can we deal with it?" Aaron asked Chen Luo in a somewhat excited tone, even though he was still not completely awake.

After explaining the situation to the children, they finally understood the urgent circumstances currently unfolding.

Chen Luo temporarily concealed the information regarding the Eight Great Mage Organizations from the children. After all, that was an overwhelmingly powerful force, and the children should not know about it so soon. It would not be good for their mental state.

-"That's what happened. We accidentally caused too much commotion, and they've started hunting us down. We can't stay here any longer. Does anyone have any good ideas?"

Everyone fell into contemplation upon hearing this.

After all, they were merely strangers in this city, and none of them knew what they could do besides run.

But the problem was, where should they run to now?

-"I know a place, big brother. I escaped from here once before. One time, I saw a subway station hidden inside the city, but not everyone knows where it is." Aaron spoke up.

After all, they were not completely useless people. They had successfully escaped outside before instead of remaining like canaries trapped in cages, at the mercy of others.

-"About a month ago, I successfully escaped from here. While running away, I accidentally spotted an underground passage in a small alley near the northern part of the city. There were some old railway tracks underneath that were no longer in use. I ran all the way without stopping, all the way to another city, but I still got caught and brought back. That's how I got this scar on my back."

Although Aaron did not have much to be proud of about this experience, he still described it as though it were some glorious achievement.

After all, being able to escape that far was already quite impressive compared with many others.

-"That's only because you didn't listen to me back then. I told you to leave during the day, but you refused. You waited until night to run toward the gate, and ended up getting caught before you even made it out. I wonder if they managed to escape..." Chris also wore a thoughtful expression.

After all, when they were captured and brought back, they discovered that there were still several beastmen inside who had escaped with them before, while the others were unfamiliar faces they had never seen.

Perhaps some people had successfully escaped, but whether they managed to make it back to Asgard was something no one knew.

-"I hope they managed to escape successfully..." Alice clasped her hands together and prayed for those who had escaped.

After all, as a member of the church, praying was practically one of the things she had to do every day.

On this continent, although the Human Race was one of the powerful races, the flames and smoke of the racial wars had long since passed.

Furthermore, the various threats reported by the Avangard Temple had already been eliminated in advance, except for this unavoidable apocalyptic event.

After all, the current strength of the Human Race was still sufficient to deal with other racial factions and hostile forces.

But precisely because they had focused their efforts on these matters, they had not displayed their true overwhelming strength in recent times.

The Beastmen, however, were completely different.

They had always maintained a high level of vigilance toward every possible situation that could arise.

Wars between Beast Kings, wars for the throne, or wars against oppression—because of these things, they had received extremely harsh training from childhood.

Their physical abilities could even rival those of Humans several levels above them.

Nevertheless, they had not been completely free of conflicts either.

Wars between Humans and Beastmen had already occurred hundreds of years ago. It was only within the past two hundred years that they had temporarily ceased hostilities and jointly signed a treaty of peaceful coexistence.

This was also because the Human Race had produced several more powerful individuals beforehand, while the Beastmen could no longer do much, as the numbers on both sides had reached a balance.

This was a basic piece of history from Infinite Profession Users that almost every player was familiar with.

That war had been extremely brutal, both in terms of deaths and casualties.

Combined with centuries of warfare, it had also caused many people to become interested in the history of this world.

If counted roughly, then before the transmigration, nearly four history books about Infinite Profession Users had already been published, and anyone could access their contents.

Therefore, to Chen Luo, this was nothing more than basic information.

At this moment, Chen Luo no longer hesitated and directly had Aaron lead the entire group onward first.

After all, leaving earlier would be more beneficial to them. The longer they stayed here, the more dangerous it would become.

Chen Luo went even further. He not only erased every trace of their presence, but also took Hina and the group of Silver Wolf monsters with him.

About 15 minutes later, he finally caught up with Aaron's group.

At this moment, everyone was rapidly moving north.

They crossed roads and alleys throughout the city while constantly erasing the traces they had left behind.

After all, leaving traces for the enemy was equivalent to revealing their own location.

Relying on their instincts as assassins, Chris and Chen Luo continuously erased each other's traces while simultaneously creating various false trails.

They did not expect to truly deceive their pursuers; they only needed to buy themselves enough time to escape.

They followed the traces Aaron had left behind.

More than two hours later, they finally found a small underground passage hidden deep within countless alleys.

As soon as they entered, they discovered large amounts of fresh blood scattered across the ground, accompanied by a strong, pungent smell of blood.

It seemed that an extremely brutal massacre had just taken place here.

Everyone cautiously made their way deeper into the underground passage.

The precarious stone stairs hung suspended in midair, barely held together by several rusted steel bars and severely eroded reinforcement plates.

Although these were obviously scraps left behind during construction and had become covered in signs of decay over time, they still barely managed to support the weight of the entire group.

The stone steps continuously emitted unsettling cracking sounds.

Every step, no matter how light, still caused waves of unease among everyone.

Although most of the children were relatively light, Hina and Chen Luo, who were walking at the very back, were considerably heavier.

Every time their feet landed, the stone slabs beneath them shook violently, frightening everyone into holding their breath.

In the end, however, everyone safely reached the bottom.

Once they had all descended underground, what appeared before their eyes was an abandoned, decaying subway station.

Bricks and stones occasionally tumbled from the walls with a rattling sound.

Several enormous demonic bats hung upside down from the ceiling, secretly opening their blood-red eyes and staring fixedly at the intruders in the darkness.

Every now and then, several enormous sewer rats would be startled and suddenly dash past them, making the already tense atmosphere feel almost suffocating.

Nevertheless, this was also their only path between life and death.

If they turned back, they would inevitably face a relentless pursuit.

But if they continued forward, no one knew what was hidden ahead.

This was the starting station, and the passage had only one straight path leading forward.

Yet just beyond the next section, there was a fork splitting into two different paths.

It could be said that one of these two roads would directly determine the life or death of the entire group.

In the eerie passage, the hazy light emitted by ancient runic inscriptions reflected across the rock walls, making the surroundings appear especially mysterious.

Everyone chose to trust Aaron's judgment and followed his guidance, with the entire group turning to the right.

The flickering light inside the underground passage was simply too weak, causing everyone to occasionally bump into one another after taking a few steps.

Fortunately, it was not severe enough to make anyone fall.

After walking for a while, Alice began to feel afraid.

Perhaps Alice possessed some special sensitivity toward dark and oppressive spaces, or perhaps she had already vaguely sensed some invisible threat.

The entire group continued silently moving forward.

Aside from Chen Luo, who could use medicine to stimulate his eyes, and Hina and Chris, who possessed night vision capable of seeing through the darkness, everyone else could barely see anything.

None of them had learned Light Magic, so they could only tightly hold onto one another's shoulders and move forward step by step like a small train.

Chen Luo felt that continuing to stumble around in the darkness like this was not a solution.

Therefore, he reached into the system storage and directly took out several torches, distributing them among everyone.

From a distance, the entire group now looked like several lonely flames slowly moving through an underground passage so dark that they could not see their own hands, leaving behind only a few faint, flickering traces of light.

-"Could the source of this light be runes embedded into the walls? But it doesn't look like they've been embedded there either. What exactly is this?"
