I don’t know how long I’ve been stuck in this damn bed, but I do know of one thing completely: I’m getting bored out of my mind here.
Normally, I’d be bouncing up and joy over the prospect of not having to do anything at all and being able to sleep all day, but unfortunately, those dreams had been dashed quickly when I realized several facts that were surrounding my life.
One, I was stuck in a fantasy land with zero electronics. That meant no video games, no phone to browse the Internet, and most importantly, no portable entertainment to keep myself busy for this long. That meant I had literally nothing else to do but sleep, especially since I didn’t have any books to keep myself busy.
Seriously, I never thought I’d get bored of staying in bed, but that has happened to me right now.
Two, my entire body was completely sore still. You would think that after a long period of sleeping and resting, I would be back to normal and energetic again, but apparently not.
My shoulder still felt sore and numb, and any attempt on moving my arm resulted in some sharp tingling sensations that ran through my entire body. The prickling didn’t really hurt, but the feeling was uncomfortable enough that I didn’t try to move it around too much.
Finally, the worst part of this entire situation, the bed was itchy as hell. While this a was clearly designed to give comfort for anyone that laid down on it, this single particular product was a faulty result, and I wanted to smack whoever made this.
The bed was creaky and rough, which made the act of finding that sweet spot of laying down difficult as all hell. The sheets were itchy and thin, and the blankets were completely torn up at certain places. The pillows were filled with dried beans, so they definitely were useful for trying to stay awake.
However, despite all these problems, this bed was so much better than the ground or the sheets on the floor I had to lay on before. While my Japanese culture had me sleeping on the ground from time to time, that was on a comfortable tatami with some form of useful warming tool to keep me comfortable, not on some dirt and stubby rocks.
Well, things weren’t all that bad at least. My family checked up on me constantly to make sure I was doing well and wasn’t going insane out of complete boredom Buan and Sally came by time to time, but since there was only so much to do, we couldn’t really do anything.
Esther wasn’t able to come around as often as them, but when she did, we usually just studied languages and other such topics to ensure that my mind didn’t go to mush. In all honesty, she was one of the better visitors in this current situation, especially since she had books and different meals that she brought over.
Honestly, she made life a lot better just by bringing in some variety from time to time.
“Ah, Feliza, the doctor’s back to check up on you!” Alise shouted from the front door. Ah, it seems like I’ll be getting looked at today. Hopefully he can tell me that I can get out of this darn bed and do something for once. I’m dying to go out and do some actual exercise.
The man in question walked right in, carrying his bag of instruments in one hand and a cup in the other. The first thing he did was take a sip from his cup, before setting it down on a table and getting his equipment ready.
Once he had set everything up, he grabbed something that looked like a normal stick. I knew instantly what this tool was: a tongue depressor. To be honest, I was a little surprised, since those didn’t exactly seemed to be one of the more useful equipment to utilize in this instance.
Thus, began the basic check-up. I had to get my tongue checked for some reason, get my pulse checked, and last but not least, figure out whether or not my shoulder had healed.
How did we find out if my shoulder was fine or not? The answer was so simple I was honestly surprised by the answer: a simple massage around the affected area. Normally, this would be something fine and enjoyable, but at this current moment?
“Ow, ow, ow, ow!” Each time the doctor pushed into my muscles, a sharp painful sensation ran through my body. Every single damn time he tried to make my body feel less painful, the reverse effect took place.
“Sorry Feliza, but your shoulder clearly hasn’t healed yet,” he said in a voice that conveyed concern and sorrow, “I’ll spread some more paste to help the effects go by quicker, but that’s all I can do right now.”
“Okay, anything helps…” I said, sulking over the fact that I needed to stay in bed for even longer than usual. Damn it, I was looking forward to getting out already, there was no need to keep me stuck to this bed anymore.
“I know you’re restless and that you want to get out of bed already, but we can’t risk you injuring yourself even worse. It’s best for you to recover fully and then be able to have fun outside.
Damn it all, why couldn’t my shoulder heal faster? I wanted out already, and this shit was really starting to grate on my mind. Nevertheless, I couldn’t do much but let him smear some really cold paste onto my shoulders, and hope that I can get out faster with whatever this stuff was.
… actually, what was this paste anyways? I’ve seen him use this plenty of times, but I never bothered trying to figure out more about this stuff. This stuff could mean life or death for me, especially since the only healing items that existed in this game were health potions and elixirs, which haven’t played a role at all yet.
Did the world change when that slimy bastard interfered with its mechanics? Was potions not a thing right now? I needed to figure out this information as fast as possible, otherwise I might really be screwed with my meta knowledge.
“Isn’t there anything stronger you could use to heal me?” I asked with an innocent voice, aimed to ensnare the doctor with my natural cuteness and to make him tell the truth.
He looked at me with some deadpan eyes before sighing and shaking his head. What was that reaction about? Was it something I said?
“No, I’m afraid there isn’t,” he said, smashing all my thoughts and future knowledge into the ground, before waving his hands, “Ah no, it isn’t like there aren’t higher quality goods that can heal you faster, because those certainly exist. It’s just…”
He scratched the back of his head, apparently thrown off by my insightful question, before looking at me in the eyes.
“There are health potions that can cure your wound quickly and get you out of bed in a single second, but those are too expensive. While I can afford them, your family wouldn’t be able to pay for such a thing. They already gave up a lot of their savings just to get you healed, they really can’t spare another copper to get you fixed.”
Damn. So it’s a situation of finances, huh? That’s reasonable, since my family was clearly the poor type. If only I had been born in a noble family!
Then again, if I was born into nobility, I probably wouldn’t have this much freedom. I’d probably be taught how to shut up and be a doll, how to do all those stupid court etiquettes, and finally how to kiss-up to my ‘male betters’.
Ah, just thinking of doing all those made me gag a little. Such acts can only be considered as completely barbaric and stupid. I certainly feel sorry for every noble girl that has to be raised that way, life must be painful in every single way.
Right, enough with getting distracted; I needed to learn more about this paste for future usage. That way, if I ever do get injured in combat and didn’t have any potions, this piece of information could be used as a means to recover.
“Um, doctor, can I ask you about this paste? I’m really curious what this is!” I asked once more in a disgustingly sweet voice, filled with all the innocence and curiosity I could muster up at this moment.
He looked at me with utter confusion for a while, before blinking and nodding. Then, he began to chuckle for some bizarre reason.
“Not now. I understand you want someone to stick around to ease away the boredom, but I unfortunately have other patients I need to tend to, otherwise I’d be here all day explaining the plaster,” he said softly, “But I’ll tell you some other time. In fact, once you’re all healed up I’ll take you to one of my favorite spots. Does that sound good?”
“That sounds perfectly fine to me.” I replied, nodding my head like a bobble head. If I can get him to like me a bit more, then that means he’d probably be able to just give me all the juicy information I wanted to know.
Behold, my newly gained social skills, courtesy of some highly intense training from my family! Gape and stare in awe to my brilliant planning and excellent foresight!
“Very well. I’ll run a check on you next week then.” His words hit me hard in the heart.
A week? I needed to stay in this darn bed for a whole week? Are you kidding me? I barely managed to survive this far, now I have to deal with an even longer period of time?
I swear, my mind better not go into some dark pits of memory from all this sheer boredom, or else I’m going to find someone to curse to the end.
The most frustrating part of this entire sequence was the fact that I couldn’t go ahead and shout at someone or blame anyone for these unfortunate set of circumstances: this situation was induced by my own actions and will.
So, I simply chose to be cordial and accept my temporary punishment.
“Yes, I shall see you then!” I responded as cheerful as the sun, while putting in my best effort to continue smiling and to not snarl at all. The doctor merely smiled at me and waved goodbye, before leaving with his equipment and his mug.
After he left, I sighed and laid back into the bed, before trying to get into a comfortable position to get some rest. Once again, that plan came to an immediate failure, as the sweet spot for my sleep was unable to be found at all.
Fuck, I really wish that I wasn’t confined to this bed right now. Seriously, I would love to be outside having fun with Buan and Sally, learning together with Esther, going out to the market with Alise, anything. As long as I’m not stuck in this piece of crap bed, I’ll be perfectly fine.
Once again, there wasn’t much to say except for the fact that I was completely bored out of my mind here. I can only hope and wish that this week passes by quickly, otherwise I’ll go crazy.
And all of this better be worth it, or I might really throw a temper tantrum out of sheer stress.
