After drying off I put on some cozy Pj's. Crawling into bed I quickly fall into a dreamless sleep.
Detective Andrews
A case crosses my desk that looks so familiar. Cases like this have been happening all over the city for at least 10 years now. I was a young rookie the first time it happened 10 years ago looking at a young girl covered in blood the soul survivor of a mass murder. The people dead are her whole family, she is untouched and claims to know nothing and to have heard nothing. All the cases are unsolved, they eat at me day and night. I read over the case and sure enough it is just like all the others.
A dead bartender this time, he has been disemboweled and it looks like the killer got off on it. Some times it was half eaten homeless people. Other times the bodies are just missing their heads, drunks from bars, hookers off the street. Sometimes its just someone in the wrong place at the wrong time like this poor bartender. All of this has to have something to do with the unsolved case from 10 years ago but how? Is there a serial killer that keeps changing his MO? Or maybe its a new gang in town, all of these thoughts and questions run through my mind as I study the case before me.
As I study the personal information of the young man, I find he works at a bar that is at the center of all the attacks that have happened lately. All but the few that happened 10 years ago those ones are farther away from the city. I always suspected that the perp moved around some, but finally found the best place to blend in. The young man lived 5 blocks from his job and was murdered at home. Possible shortly after he got off work and walked home. Was he followed and then killed after the killer pushed his way into the door. No from what I can see of the crime scene photos there is no sign of struggle.
I put the case file down on my desk and stand grabbing my jacket from the back of my chair I leave my office. I take the elevator to the garage and get in my car to head to the crime scene to have a look for myself see if anything was missed or not seen in the photos. I reach the crime scene in a few minuets and park on the street. I walk up to the front door of the building looking around as I go. There are no signs of struggle or of a suspect fleeing and that strikes me as odd from the pictures of the body the killer would have been covered in blood. There should be some kind of trace there is no way to not leave any trace what so ever.
I enter the building and head to the apartment. At the door I show my badge to the officer and duck under the police tape. Once I am in the apartment I stand in the entry way looking for any clue as to what happened. There is no sign of forced entry into the apartment. So whoever killed the man had to have been invited in or was someone he knew. As I look around I find it so strange that the killer has left no trace.
As I look around some more I get to thinking about the other cases. There are not a lot of women serial killers but it is not impossible. The one thing that stops me from saying 100% that it is a woman is the violence of some of the victims. There is no way the average woman could decapitate a man with what appeared to their bare hands. I wonder if the bartender picked up a woman at the bar she could know something. But if she had been here just before the killer or was still here when the killer showed up why isn’t she dead too? How ever the bartender could be gay and brought home a man.
I check all the sinks and drains no signs of a clean up and that strikes me as odd. The shower does not look like it has been used in a good 24hrs possibly longer. If the killer did not wash up how in the world did they get out of the apartment without leaving a blood trail? Standing in the bedroom where the murder took place I just survey the room not moving from the doorway. I close my eyes trying to get a feel of the scene before the crime took place.
As my mind tries to come up with a chain of events. Scenario one he brought home a lovely young woman, long hair petite frame and possible drunk. They get to the room and begin to do the horizontal tango. There is a knock on the door and the young man goes to answer it. Another man enters the apartment and they begin to argue. The young woman gets dressed and runs out of the apartment. The men end up in the bedroom where the young man ends up gutted. I shake my head as that still seems off because the blood splatter looks as if someone was getting off in the blood enjoying the hot red liquid spraying everywhere. Scenario two the lovely drunk woman with long hair and small frame is surprisingly strong and domineering and pushes the young man down on the bed. Then in the mists of passion produces a sharp knife and starts to gut the man. She then rolls around in the blood while pleasuring herself she gets off on this kind of thing. I shake my head again as this sounds most possible but there are just too many unanswered questions. Like how could a woman do this with not struggle and without leaving a trail of evidence.
I open my eyes and begin to pace the doorway thinking hard as scenario 1 seems the most possible but scenario two fits the scene in this room best but is so unlikely.
