They were eating dinner and Tosaka was nagging at her.
“You are so irritatingly picky. Eating is good and you are not going to be fat. Just eat or you will faint again.”
“I fainted because I did not have lunch before that.” Midori stopped eating and held her chopsticks. “I used to have lunch last semester and everything was well.”
“Still, eat. Remember that day? You walked to Walmart and then faint there.” Her brows slight frowned as she loudly said. “You were sent to the hospital for hours and do you know how much just sitting there cost?”
Arguing with her didn’t seem to work hence she stopped. Her mother was still scolding and nagging her, she only became silent when her father interrupted.
“It’s dinner, stop with the nagging.” He looked annoyed and placed his chopsticks down. “And you, eat or don’t eat is your business. But if you don’t eat, so just go to school and then continue to faint in there.”
“...” Her lips pursed into a thin line for a second before continuing her eating.
The atmosphere was faintly tensed and awkward that she felt both guilty and a bit angry. However much she wanted to defend herself, she accepted her grievance and ate in silence until the topic changed by her sister.
Since she felt grievance and didn’t want to follow her parents’ advise to eat more, she had to find another way to cease her syncope sickness from obstructing her.
Don’t worry, that won’t happen again… At least in this class, since this is the only gym class I have left before all others are academic or art(music type, not drawing/painting).
Hmm, you’re really going to do that?
That? The goal?
Yeah, but of course that’ll be easy...and fun.
Midori snickered inside.
Last semester is doing my best. This semester… Let’s slack off as much as possible~
She disliked this gym class very much but was helpless. Comparing to her old gym class last semester, this was way too boring and…mental abusing(just joking), at least for her.
The class didn’t have a few things that were listed in the description, and those things were the fun ones. The one thing that made her especially displeased was that there wasn’t any dancing like it said there would.
-----
A few weeks passed.
Midori was invited to go hang out and watch a movie with her friend(?) in Orchestra. It was with Badenah, Karolin—the two that invited her—and someone that was not in the orchestra, Vannesia.
She walked with Vannesia from her first class to the second before splitting since her class was farther than Midori’s. They spoke about stuff like, “How’s the weather?” or more specifically, “How’s your day?” Now that she thought about it, it was a bit strange to ask someone how was their day in the morning when it literally just started not too long ago.
But what else should I talk about? There were some days that I was feeling too awkward to even ask that and walked silently, only saying “bye” when we parted.
You don’t even know how to start a conversation?
Not that I don’t, I just don’t have a topic to talk about.
…
I mean, what do students usually talk about in school? If it’s others or how people are or things that are on social media, I’m not informed. I don’t use social media.
… Then be informed.
Midori bit her bottom lip as she was waiting for the announcement to go off. The foreign language department was going to go on a field trip to the Cleveland International Film Festival(CIFF).
Spanish had been called down, she was in French and waiting impatiently while sitting in English. She looked around, seeing that Badenah was still there also waiting like her, she exhaled.
Finally, the announcement sounded and both of them walked together to the waiting place.
“Are you excited?” Badenah asked in her usual hyper voice.
“Yea.” She said, “So which film do you think we’ll be watching?”
“I don’t know.”
“Oh, my sister gave me a magazine about the festival yesterday.”
“Oh really?”
“Yea. There were many films.” Midori smiled as they were approaching the waiting room. “They even have a Japanese movie.”
“That’s cool,” she responded
She gazed at Badenah’s purse and complimented, “Your purse looks nice.”
“Thanks,” she smiled, “Your bag is cute too.”
“Really? My sister got it for me.” Her likeness to the tiny golden backpack increased slightly.
“Ahaha. I have a similar one at home, it’s also this brand.”
Midori vaguely nodded her head as she smiled.
“Oh.” She was staring in a direction within the crowded room. “I spotted my friends, see you later, Midori.”
“Bye,” she smiled, her toes within her shoes unconsciously curled. It was a habit she wanted to get rid of because it was a visible flaw; since she noticed it, why should she let it continued?
She sighed and looked around, only to find everyone had someone they were talking to while she was smiling, alone. It was very crowded where she was standing and it only made her more uncomfortable, hence, she tried to move through the throng. More people were coming down and if she stayed there, she would probably be sandwiched.
She made it through the packed crowd and sighed before glancing around. She took out her phone and pretended to be playing with it to waste time. In reality, she was too excited to even read the web novel on her phone but it was better than standing alone while doing nothing, that would truly make her look lonely.
Midori wasn’t exactly feeling lonely, she liked being alone for most of the time since it wouldn’t make her feel self-conscious. However, it was awkward to stand in a crowd and just close herself within an invisible wall. She didn’t feel lonely standing alone but she didn’t want others to think that she was lonely.
“Hey Midori,” someone called out.
