Chapter 25 Encountering Athletes
"I still have things to do, so just stay behind me. Don't make a sound, or you'll attract zombies. You don't want to get surrounded, do you?" Liu Yang warned her.
At the same time, Liu Yang sized her up.
She was tall and full-figured, with sleek, alluring curves.
Although her face was somewhat haggard and pale, it couldn't hide the striking beauty of her exquisite features.
She was a total stunner.
Her long, straight, fair legs were especially eye-catching, boasting immaculate proportions. They were easily more captivating than those of any other woman he had met so far.
And at the base of those legs was a pair of delicately shaped, perfectly proportioned feet.
"Mhm! I understand," the woman said, nodding quickly.
She had spent the last few days trapped inside the infirmary while zombies relentlessly battered their heads against the door, scaring her out of her wits.
"Alright, let me make our way toward the dormitories," Liu Yang said.
"Ah? The dormitories? They must be crawling with zombies right now! Shouldn't we avoid them?" The woman gasped in shock.
The outbreak had struck on a weekend when most students and faculty were resting in their living quarters.
By now, both student and staff dormitories were ground zero for the infection, housing tens of thousands of undead.
Heading there now sounded like a suicide mission.
"The zombies are exactly what I'm looking for! Don't worry, you'll be safe with me. Let's go," Liu Yang said with total composure.
Seeing the absolute confidence in his eyes, the woman finally nodded.
He had effortlessly killed the five zombies outside the door, which proved his capability. Since he wasn't afraid and could handle multiple threats at once, her best option was to place her trust in him.
"Okay," she agreed, falling in line behind Liu Yang as they set off toward the residential area.
Along the way, she broke the silence. "Hello... I still haven't asked your name. I'm Zhao Yuting."
"I'm Liu Yang. I'm a student here."
"Ah? A student?" Zhao Yuting looked surprised, a hint of shame in her voice. "I'm a teacher at the university... A teacher is supposed to protect her students, yet here you are protecting me. I feel so embarrassed."
Liu Yang glanced back at her.
She looked exceptionally young; at first, he had taken her for an undergraduate student.
Now that he looked closer, he noticed her white button-up shirt and professional pencil skirt.
Her sheer black pantyhose were torn from running for her life during the outbreak, giving her outfit a uniquely tantalizing edge.
It was a classic office lady look, which made perfect sense now that he knew she was a professor.
"I didn't realize you were a teacher. You look so young," Liu Yang remarked.
"Thank you..." Zhao Yuting's cheeks flushed crimson, and she lowered her head blushing.
She was twenty-three and had only recently joined the faculty. Thanks to her fair, flawless skin, people frequently mistook her for a student-a compliment that always brightened her mood, as it meant she still looked youthful.
As the two chatted while walking, several burly men suddenly stepped out from a corner, blocking their path.
The men carried weapons like baseball bats, javelins, and makeshift spears.
Liu Yang narrowed his eyes as he assessed them.
They had tanned skin, towering builds, and thick muscles bulging beneath their clothes-clearly student-athletes from the university.
When the apocalypse broke out, they had been training outdoors on the track and field grounds rather than trapped inside the crowded dorms, allowing them to survive. While a few of their teammates had turned, the group had managed to kill them off thanks to the open space.
Fighting in an open field gave survivors room to maneuver, unlike the tight hallways of the dorms where escape was impossible.
Spotting Liu Yang and the gorgeous woman behind him, the athletes exchanged crude, malicious grins.
One of them shouted at Liu Yang, "Hey! Aren't you that guy... the college kid who worked as a security guard? Liu... Liu Yang, right? I can't believe a trashy guard like you is still breathing!"
"Hahaha! Trash like him never dies! Look at this broke loser surviving the apocalypse!"
The men burst into taunting laughter.
Before the outbreak, Liu Yang's part-time job as a security guard had made him a laughingstock on campus. Pictures of him standing guard at residential gates had even been posted on the university forum for students to mock.
Liu Yang had never understood their mindset.
What was wrong with working to support himself while in school? Wasn't earning his own living far more respectable than rich kids living off their parents' allowances?
Was there really anything shameful about being a guard? Did society genuinely need to rank people by their jobs?
Seeing the sneers on their faces, Liu Yang's expression hardened into ice. "You idiots must have a death wish."
If this were his villa district, he would have slaughtered them without a second word. He had only held back because he had no plans to establish a base here.
However, his words instantly provoked the group.
Four beefy, well-armed athletes against one lone guard-and the guy had the nerve to act tough?
He was practically begging to die!
"Kid, what did you just say? Did I mishear you? You think you're gonna kill us? Hahaha! Did a zombie eat your damn brains?"
"Fuck! A useless piece of trash dares talk back to us? You're asking for it!"
"There are no laws in the apocalypse, man! We can kill you right here and nobody will care!"
"Get on your knees, bow your head, and apologize! Hand over all your food, that weapon, and the woman. Then you can get the hell out of here!" the lead athlete barked viciously.
"Heh. You're right-there are no laws anymore, so nobody will care when I kill you either," Liu Yang sneered.
Since they were asking for death, he had no reason to hold back.
Besides, ever since boosting his attributes, he had only fought mindless zombies. He was curious to see how many seconds four slightly stronger humans could last against him.
"Wait... what are you doing? We're all alumni, can't we talk this out? Why fight? Don't use your numbers to bully him!"
Unexpectedly, Zhao Yuting stepped forward, putting herself between Liu Yang and the men.
In her eyes, these athletes were simply using their numerical advantage to intimidate a student. As a teacher, she felt a moral duty to stand up for him.
Though she was trembling with fear, she resolutely shielded Liu Yang with her body.
Liu Yang felt a slight touch of warmth in his heart at her protective gesture.
The athletes, however, scoffed at her words.
"Heh, 'alumni'? The world's ended, lady! Don't be so naive.
"You're Professor Zhao, right? I've heard of you-the youngest and hottest teacher on campus.
"My boys and I have played with plenty of female students lately, but we haven't tried a professor yet!
"Come on, follow us back to the equipment room! We'll show you a good time. Just try not to die in a few days like those other girls..."
"Ah!" Zhao Yuting gasped in horror at their filthy words and lustful glares.
Yet despite her terror, she refused to back down.
Liu Yang had seen enough.
Gripping his fire axe, he burst forward like lightning.
The athletes' faces dropped in an instant.
"He's too fast!"
"What the hell-"
"Aaaagh!"
A agonizing scream tore through the air as Liu Yang severed one athlete's arm in a single fluid swing, sending blood spraying across the ground.
"My arm! My arm!" The man collapsed, clutching his bloody stump and shrieking in agony.
"Damn it, this guy's insanely strong! Tiger, shoot him!" the leader roared.
"Whoosh!"
A sharp whistle cut through the air-an ambush arrow from behind!
With superhuman reflexes, Liu Yang whipped his hand backward and snatched the flying arrow out of midair!
He glanced over his shoulder and saw a fifth athlete hiding behind a large tree not far away, holding a compound bow.
The archer's face was deathly pale. Shaking uncontrollably, he stammered in utter disbelief, "Holy shit... catching an arrow with your bare hands?! Are... are you even human?!"
Liu Yang sneered. "Whether I'm human or not doesn't matter. What matters is that you're all about to become ghosts."
In the next instant, Liu Yang charged into the group like a god of slaughter, wiping out every last one of them in seconds.
